UK REACH-IT System

On 1 January 2021, the UK Government Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) launched the Comply with UK REACH IT service, allowing companies to register chemicals manufactured or imported into the GB market above 1 tonne/year per legal entity, as required under the UK REACH legislation which entered into force on 1 January 2021.  Full guidance is available on the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) website; further help relevant for cosmetic ingredients and products is also available on the CTPA Brexit public advice.

Whilst finished cosmetic products are exempt from the requirements under the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of the Chemicals (REACH) Regulation in both the UK and the EU, companies are reminded that cosmetic ingredients contained within finished cosmetic products are under the scope of REACH.
