Smarter Regulation: Call for Evidence

DBT open call for evidence on the current UK regulatory landscape.

On 17 October 2023, the Brexit Opportunities Unit in the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) published the launch of a call for evidence seeking views on independent regulators and the functionality of the current UK regulatory landscape, considering responses from businesses, consumers, regulators, and other bodies across all sectors.

This call for evidence forms part of the Smarter Regulation programme.  The programme aims to review and reform Retained EU Law (REUL) according to the Retained EU Law Act, as well as other wider domestic regulations.  This includes:

  • Minimising any regulatory burden for businesses to effectively trade.
  • Future-proofing regulations.
  • Finding alternatives to regulation where possible.
  • Ensuring a well-functioning landscape of regulators.

The Smarter Regulation programme includes the recent Product Safety Review Consultation.

The call for evidence can be accessed here, and will run until the 7 January 2024.
