On 21 July 2025, the Product Regulation and Metrology (PRAM) Bill received Royal Assent and has been implemented into UK Law as the Product Regulation and Metrology Act.
The Act makes provision regarding the marketing or use of products in the UK and about the units of measurement and the quantities in which goods are marketed in the UK.
The Act provides new delegated powers to set and update Product Safety and Metrology regulations for the purpose of reducing or mitigating risk presented by products used or marketed in the UK, including products through an online marketplace.
A new Code of Conduct has been published, which clarifies how new powers under the Act will be used, ensuring that all regulations are proportionate and evidence-based, with clear statutory and non-statutory controls in place. The full document for policy makers can be found here.
