OPSS Release Delivery Report for 2020/2021

The report sets out the work delivered by OPSS with product regulation, authorities, and partners.

On 27 June 2022, the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) published a delivery report describing their activities and impact, and highlighting their achievements over the 2020/21 financial year, mapping them against the four strategic objectives: Enforce, Inform, Analyse and Build.  The report includes:

  • From January 2021, following the end of the Transition period, OPSS developed the process for notifying cosmetics. This included establishing the Submit Cosmetic Product Notifications (SCPN) portal.  From going live in January 2021 to October 2021, over 285,000 cosmetic products had been notified, with 10,000 users and 8,300 businesses registered.
  • Technical annexes were updated within The Product Safety (Toys and Cosmetics) Regulation.
  • Work conducted with counterparts in Indonesia to remove a market barrier for UK cosmetics being sold in that market.
  • Method development and ring trial for the determination of Cannabidiol (CBD) and illicit cannabinoids in cosmetic products.
