On 29 November 2022, the Departments for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) published their response to the public consultation on the extension of the deadlines for registration under the UK Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation. CTPA responded to this consultation and the Association’s response can be downloaded here.
Defra has announced that, in line with the feedback received from the consultation, the deadlines for registering under UK REACH will be extended by 3 years (option 1 from the public consultation). This means that the new deadlines will be October 2026, October 2028 and October 2030.
Next steps: subject to the consent of the Scottish and Welsh Governments, Defra will have to introduce a Statutory Instrument to amend the deadlines that are currently in place and give effect to the new deadlines resulting from the public consultation.
Furthermore, Defra will also legislate, subject to the requisite devolved administration consent, to extend the statutory dates for compliance checks by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
