Consultation on NI Chemical Industry

DAERA has contracted a study for analysis of the chemicals sector in Northern Ireland.

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs of Northern Ireland (DAERA) has contracted WSP Environment & Infrastructure Solutions to conduct a study for analysis of the chemicals sector in Northern Ireland (NI).  The study aims to provide an understanding of the NI chemical industry in terms of economic characteristics.  This will help DAERA to understand the impacts to the NI chemical industry from regulatory changes at UK and EU levels.

The consultation will investigate:

  • the supply (manufacture, import, export) of chemicals in selected sub-sectors of the NI chemical industry;
  • the use of chemicals in selected sub-sectors of the NI chemical industry; and
  • potential divergence in EU and UK regulatory requirements for chemicals, which may impact the NI industry.

WSP are now gathering data on manufacturing, supply, trade, and use of chemicals across sectors, as well as information on potential regulatory divergence between EU and UK chemicals regulations.

If you would like to respond, please complete this questionnaire and email to [email protected] and [email protected], in addition to any documents or information that might be useful for the purposes of this study.

The deadline for the consultation is 10 April 2023.
