Join DBT Webinar on Rules of Origin for International Trade

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is organising a free webinar on Tuesday 7 July 2026 at 2pm (BST) on understanding how to determine the origin of goods in both non-preferential and preferential contexts.

This is a key webinar in the context of the several Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) that the UK has negotiated with countries such as Australia, New Zealand, India, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), among others (see the full list on FTAs on the UK Government website).

FTAs allow preferential tariffs, provided that companies can demonstrate that they meet the Rules of Origins set out in the Agreements.  Origin has different implications depending on the type of preference, which can not only affect tariffs, but also quotas and policy.

During the webinar, companies will learn:

  • How to understand the differences between preferential and non-preferential origin;
  • What documentation might be needed to support origin rules;
  • Preferential criteria within Free Trade Agreements;
  • Best practices for compliance in origin documentation and declarations.

For further information and to register for the webinar, please visit the UK Government website.  DBT has also launched a series of webinars on how to move goods internationally, designed to give businesses the confidence to get goods from A to B.  Further details can be found on the DBT website
