CTPA Position Paper on the Use of ’Free From’ Claims

CTPA has published a paper detailing the association’s position on the use of ’free from’ claims, including claims with a similar meaning, for cosmetic and personal care products. This position represents the views of the association based on the existing legislation and guidance available. The paper is intended to support companies in the decision-making process related to claims.

CTPA believes companies should only use ‘free from’ claims when they are intended to inform consumer choice.  Consumers should not be led to believe that a cosmetic product with a ‘free from’ claim is safer or a better purchase decision, which legally cannot be true.

The paper can be accessed directly here and is also accessible on the CTPA Position Papers page under the Policy section of the website alongside other published positions from CTPA.
