CTPA Launches its Sun Protection Campaign for 2024

Every year, CTPA, the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association - the voice of the UK cosmetics and personal care industry - has been sharing with the general public some important information about how to enjoy the sun safely as we enter the warmer season.

This is an essential matter of public health and sunscreens play a vital role in keeping adults and children safe when exposing their skin to the sun, as part of a sun-safe regime. Recent research shows 88% of UK adults think suncream is important for the health of their and their family’s skin in providing protection from the sun[1].

Visit our website to discover the updated landing page on sun protection with key questions answered, including (but not limited to):

  • which level of protection to choose and how to apply your product,
  • the critical difference between sun protection products and skincare/makeup products containing SPF,
  • the differences between face and body sunscreens.

From this updated landing page, CTPA is also offering deeper insight into several topics through dedicated pages and infographics on:

  • the different types of sunscreen,
  • the different protection levels and how to understand your product’s label,
  • how to protect children from the sun,
  • what are UV rays and an infographic on our most sun-exposed areas depending on our activities,
  • how sunscreens are developed and tested.

Dr Emma Meredith, Director-General of CTPA says:

“Sun protection is a subject close to my heart.  An incredible amount of research goes into developing and testing sunscreens to make sure we can trust the protection that they offer. CTPA is pleased to represent an industry which plays such an important role in protecting our skin from the risks linked to excessive sun exposure, from uncomfortable burns, to premature skin ageing and to skin cancer. We want consumers to have accurate information and advice on how to use sun protection products for themselves and their families, so that we can all enjoy the benefits of the summer weather in a sensible and safe way.”
