CTPA is supporting the Intellectual Property Office UK (IPO) Face the Fakes campaign to tackle counterfeit beauty.
Counterfeit beauty products can look convincing, but what's inside could be a different story.
New Trading Standards testing found that four in 10 seized counterfeit beauty products tested failed safety checks, with potentially harmful substances including mercury, high levels of lead, methanol and even nicotine identified.
Launching today (30/10/26), the IPO Face the Fakes campaign aims to raise awareness of the hidden health risks associated with counterfeit beauty products and help consumers shop more safely.
Alongside the campaign, new practical guidance is available for beauty businesses and professionals, helping them source products safely, recognise warning signs and protect their customers.
Dr Emma Meredith OBE, Director-General of CTPA, said: “A huge amount of work happens behind the scenes to make sure people can use their cosmetics with confidence. Counterfeit products can bypass those safeguards, which is why knowing who you are buying from and choosing trusted sources really matters.”
