On 17 June 2026, the UK and India announced that their Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will enter into force next month, on 15 July 2026. From this date, UK businesses will be able to trade under the terms of the FTA and begin benefiting from its provisions, including tariff reductions. For cosmetics, tariffs of up to 22% will be eliminated either from 15 July 2026 or over a period of up to 10 years.
Business and Trade Secretary, Peter Kyle, has encouraged all businesses to use the next 28 days to register and ensure they are fully prepared to benefit from the agreement. To access the tariff reductions, businesses must register with HMRC. This week, the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) also launched its UK-India Roadshow across the UK to promote the new opportunities arising from the trade deal (see the UK Government's website for further details).
