On 20 June 2025, the Spanish Government notified to the EU Technical Regulation Information System (TRIS) a Draft Decree aiming to introduce labelling requirements to facilitate access to the labelling information of consumer goods and products that are of particular relevance to the protection of the safety, integrity and quality of life of persons with disabilities, especially visual disabilities.
The stated aim is to regulate accessible labelling of consumer products with a view of protecting the safety and quality of life of people with disabilities.
The Decree establishes ‘accessible labelling’ in the form of Braille alphabet, a QR code or similar system, as well as a tactile mark to help locate the QR code on-pack. It is also indicated that the information must appear in at least Spanish.
The TRIS notification is open for comments until 23 September 2025.
