A Royal Warrant of Appointment is granted as a mark of recognition to people or companies supplying goods or services to the Royal Households. The Monarch decides who may grant Royal Warrants, and these grants give the Warrant Holder the right to display the Royal Arms accompanied by the Legend providing details of which Member of the Royal Family has granted the Royal Warrant, the company name, the nature of the goofs or services and the head office address of the company.
Royal Warrants are issued for a period of 5 years and reviewed in the year before they are due to expire.
While the country mourns the very sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday 8 September 2022, a practical issue for all Royal Warrants issued by the Queen is that these will now be considered to become void. Companies and individuals will have up to two years to discontinue the use of the Royal Arms in connection with their business. This may be different from the cancellation of a Royal Warrant, whereby a business or person is allowed up to 12 months to change its packaging, stationery, advertising, etc.
More information is expected to be provided in the short term through the Royal website or through the Royal Warrant Holders Association.
