EU Regulation on Classification Labelling and Packaging

EU Commission has published amendment to EU CLP Regulation.

On 20 November 2024, the EU Commission published on the Official Journal of the European Union (EU) the regulation amending the Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) regulation.  This regulation will enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal.

  • New criteria have been introduced for classifying chemicals with properties such as endocrine disruption, persistence, bioaccumulation, toxicity, and persistent, mobile, and toxic characteristics. These changes aim to improve hazard identification and risk management across various industries, including cosmetics.
  • Updates have been made to the harmonised classification and labelling of specific substances.
  • Changes to make labels more accessible, with potential adoption of fold-out labels for products with limited space.
  • Businesses have been provided with a transitional period to implement these changes, allowing time for compliance with labelling, packaging, and communication requirements.
