In 2018 Cosmetics Europe, the European personal care association, studied and published a Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) of shampoo. More information is available here.
CTPA would like to highlight that several international cosmetics companies have come together to form an Eco-Beauty Score Consortium; providing opportunity to collaboratively develop an environmental impact scoring system designed specifically for cosmetic products. This is not a consortium being led by Cosmetics Europe, as it is a global venture, but Cosmetics Europe has joined the consortium as an observer member.
The aim of the consortium is to allow for increased transparency with regards to the environmental impacts of personal care products, and help consumers make informed decisions when purchasing.
The consortium will work alongside sustainability consultancy, Quantis, to design a scoring system based on full life cycle assessments, that consumers can use to compare personal care products. The scoring system will be independently verified, and the work will be published.
The consortium is open for all cosmetic companies to join. To find out more, please email the consortium manager at [email protected].
