Spring is traditionally a time for cleaning and decluttering. The ‘spring clean’ can also be a time for organisations to reflect but then to look forward. CTPA is taking time to do this as it considers the results of its most recent membership survey.
2025 Membership Survey
CTPA undertakes a biennial Membership Survey to assess member
satisfaction, gain deeper insight into members’ needs and actively encourage engagement by enabling members to provide meaningful feedback. This initiative helps to uncover new opportunities for improvement and collaboration. The latest survey, run in Q4 2025, provided extremely helpful insights, which is essential in helping CTPA shape future priorities and ensure we continue to deliver services that matter to members and to the wider industry.
There was increased participation and engagement compared with the previous survey, with responses received from across the breadth of membership categories, time in membership and roles of those who participated including from CEO/DG/MD/Owner.
A detailed report is now available to download here, offering deeper insight into the feedback received.
Encouragingly, 96% of respondents were very satisfied or satisfied with CTPA services. Core services were highly valued and positive feedback was received on key aspects of CTPA’s work.
Suggestions for improvements, new trends and new services will be well considered to ensure continual improvement of services and members’ experience.
My thanks to all members who took part in the survey, and to those who continue to engage on a daily basis with CTPA’s work to ensure the success of our industry now and in the future.
Advocacy in Action
The membership survey showed that nearly 90% of respondents have strong confidence in CTPA's effectiveness in representing the industry to Government and stakeholders. This validates the on-going actions that all members of the CTPA technical team undertake as part of their daily work, engaging with key Government departments in DBT (Department for Business and Trade), OPSS (Office for Product Safety and Standards), DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs), DSIT (Department for Science, Innovation and Technology), HSE (Health and Safety Executive) and the Environment Agency.
I have been pleased to engage at Ministerial level, having recently met with Kate Dearden MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), and Minister for Employment Rights and Consumer Protection, including consumer protection and competition policy, retail and hospitality, consumer goods and product safety. Members of the policy team at OPSS (Office for Product Safety and Standards) were also in attendance.
It was an extremely positive meeting, with the Minister being very interested in the industry and was aware of the many challenges it faces. It was a good opportunity to highlight that the sector is an industry of growth, whose products are essential to consumers for their health, hygiene and wellbeing – highlighting the importance of suncare and oral care, and mentioning the CTPA SkinCare Simplified – A Parent’s Guide campaign. I also noted how much CTPA and its members value the active engagement with DBT and OPSS, and the departments’ support for safety and the joint work on UK/EU cooperation on chemicals legislation. I raised a number of key issues facing the industry as well as the willingness to work with DBT and OPSS on the aims of the Product Regulation and Metrology Act, especially on enforcement and on online marketplaces. The Minister kindly offered support on possible impacts to business.
I was also pleased to participate in the Science, Innovation and Technology Select Committee Inquiry into “The science and regulation of hair and beauty products and treatments”, which was launched at the end of 2025. The Inquiry is focussing on cosmetic products and injected cosmetic treatments, the latter being outside the remit of CTPA. I was invited to give oral evidence at a panel session in January. I have also submitted written evidence, explaining the strict regulatory framework covering cosmetic products and answering specific questions in the Inquiry’s Terms of Reference. The CTPA information clarifies how the existing regulation of cosmetic products works and highlights the comprehensive nature of current cosmetics legislation that ensures safe products for all, providing the Select Committee with a full understanding of the regulatory landscape. We anticipate that an Inquiry Report will be published in due course.
CTPA Sustainability Summit 20 May 2026 – Register now!
Sustainability must be a key focus for us all. CTPA’s Sustainability Strategy, Driving Towards a Net Positive Cosmetics Industry, supports and helps guide companies of all sizes towards making their own roles, products and businesses more sustainable. As the public voice of the UK cosmetics and personal care industry, CTPA is in a unique position to effect change at a pre-competitive level.
It can be quite daunting for companies to know where to start and where they should be focussing their efforts. While the CTPA Sustainability Hub is a vital resource providing definitions, legal requirements and related guidance, both external and from CTPA, available to members and the wider industry, the CTPA Sustainability Summit is a crucial flagship event.
This year’s Summit, being held at Woburn House, London, on 20 May 2026, brings together leading experts to share invaluable perspectives and equip delegates with insight into how sustainability issues are shaping innovation across the cosmetics and personal care sector. Through engaging workshops and discussions, attendees will be inspired to think creatively about future opportunities.
The CTPA Sustainability Summit is open both to members and non-members. It is designed for anyone working in the cosmetics and personal care sector with an interest in sustainability and how it relates to the products of the future, from formulations and packaging to marketing.
Registration is now open! Please find out more about the Summit and book your place here. I look forward to welcoming you to this important event.
