Find us on...
We are delighted to invite you and your colleagues to look around the CTPA’s brand new website, www.ctpa.org.uk which has had a complete make-over, taking all the information from our previous site while improving access to the knowledge and science for which CTPA is well-known.
Understanding your legal obligations
Over the past year, CTPA has been bringing its digital strategy vision to life through the development of new-look websites that reflect the innovative, vibrant and responsible cosmetics and personal care industry in the UK; showcasing the wealth of regulatory and expert business advice we provide on a daily basis to our members and the industry at large. The CTPA public site provides a comprehensive reference point on the strict regulatory framework for cosmetics applicable in both the UK and the EU which is available to view by everyone, complete with a new extensive list of FAQs to help companies struggling to understand the complexity of legal obligations if manufacturing or supplying cosmetic products. A new ‘basket’ option is available for purchases direct from the site for publications and events where available.
Member Access
However, CTPA is a members’ association, and on signing-in to the members’ site, all staff in a member company - whatever their role and wherever they may be based - can access more detailed help and advice in the updated Member Resources section and enjoy personalised interactive features by using the Issue Tracker to immediately see the news that is most important to them, subscribe to member-only detailed UK, EU/EEA regulatory and international online manuals and utilise the comprehensive best practice advice in the Reference Zone. With new instant, weekly and monthly digital issue and newsletter e-mail alerts, this will keep members abreast of changing regulation, issues under discussion and provide the tools to make advance decisions on issues affecting the way they do business.
Dedicated consumer information
The CTPA’s dedicated consumer site, www.thefactsabout.co.uk, our public-facing website that provides the science behind the cosmetics and personal care products that we use in our everyday lives, has also had a complete revamp. With misinformation able to spread so rapidly in the modern age, this site is completely brand-neutral providing consumers and the media with scientific facts in plain English, avoiding technical jargon and linking to credible third party sources to enable consumers make up their own mind based on scientific evidence. Understanding the complex science behind cosmetics and personal care products can seem daunting and steering through the myths that circulate about some ingredients can be challenging, but with the knowledge CTPA provides you’ll be an expert yourself in no time, just remember – every single thing on earth is a chemical!
The home page also provides clear navigation to Hot Topics, which highlight issues that are being discussed in the media today. If you read or hear something that causes you concern you can search the site to find out the facts of the story.
Who are we?
If this is the first time you’re experiencing either our websites or the CTPA as a company and association, hello and welcome!
The Association has been established since 1945 when the cosmetics industry was composed of a large number of relatively small manufacturers, some with well-known names that are still thriving today. The prime purpose in those early days was the need for a concerted effort to find ways of overcoming the challenges caused by World War II, such as shortages of raw materials and high taxes on what were then termed ‘luxury’ goods.
The modern day CTPA represents the extensive industry in the UK with all types of companies involved in making, providing services, supplying and selling cosmetics and personal care products in membership. As the voice of the British cosmetics industry, CTPA promotes best practice and advises companies about the strict legal framework for cosmetics. Representing industry views to the UK Government and external stakeholders worldwide, we also provide information to the media on issues relating to the safety of cosmetic products. The CTPA team has pharmacists, cosmetic chemists, regulatory specialists and environmentalists involved in ensuring that the very best advice is available to members on all issues pertaining to the making and supplying of cosmetics and personal care products.
Our key roles are:
- Promoting the strengths of a well-regulated industry.
- Promoting best practices by working with all stakeholders to ensure high quality cosmetic products are made to the highest possible safety standards.
- Providing scientific strength and a credible coordinated voice to the UK Government, the EU authorities (through our European personal care association, Cosmetics Europe), the media and other key stakeholders.
- Maximising the opportunities for companies to innovate and provide consumers with the choice they demand.
