COP26 and the Road to Net Zero

The UK will host the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow from 31 October until 12 November 2021.

The COP Presidency is calling on all businesses to join a global campaign ‘Race to Zero’, the largest global alliance on net zero, to coordinate support for a zero-carbon recovery.   Whilst individual businesses cannot sign up for the campaign directly, they are invited to join an initiative which is an official partner to Race to Zero.  The objective is to build momentum around the shift to a decarbonized economy ahead of COP26 with all members committed to the same overarching goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050 at the very latest. The COP Presidency is also encouraging all businesses with a presence in any G20 country to work with governments to demonstrate their support for the goals for COP26.  Businesses can do this through signing an open letter, organised by the We Mean Business Coalition to rally a collective business voice to highlight that business wants to see G20 countries demonstrate climate leadership in the lead up to COP26.  The deadline for signing the letter is 15 September 2021.
