UPDATED – CTPA Public Statement on the Legal Status of BMHCA/'Lilial' in GB

Following many requests for advice from both members and non-members of CTPA, as well as sister associations, retailers and other stakeholders, CTPA issued a public statement in February 2022 to clarify the legal status of butylphenyl methylpropional (BMHCA), sometimes known by its trade name ‘Lilial’, in the market of Great Britain.

In April 2022, CTPA alerted companies of the upcoming updates to Annexes II and III of the UK Cosmetics Regulation which include changes to the legal status of BMHCA/’lilial’.  The statement has therefore been updated accordingly, to clarify that the current legal status of BMHCA/lilial in GB is different from that of the EU/NI, as well as notify of the future legal status in GB.  The new version of the document can be downloaded here.

Companies and stakeholders can keep track of ingredients divergence between the EU and GB in this public resource of the CTPA website.
