The European Chemicals Agency’s (ECHA’s) Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC) has classified talc as a CMR 1B substance (please see link to RAC minutes here). Unless an exemption application to allow continued use of this substance under Article 15 of the EU Cosmetic Products Regulation is successful, talc will be banned as a cosmetic ingredient in the EU.
The UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is currently assessing talc under GB CLP, therefore further information about the status of this ingredient in the UK is expected in due course.
