IMPORTANT – OPSS Call for Data on Cosmetic Ingredients with Suspected Endocrine Disrupting Properties

On 9 October 2025, the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) launched a call for data for cosmetic ingredients with suspected endocrine disrupting properties.  Below is the list of ingredients part of this call for data.

1. Benzophenone-1 (CAS 131-56-6)
2. Benzophenone-2 (CAS 131-55-5)
3. Benzophenone -4 (CAS 4065-45-6)
4. Benzophenone-5 (CAS 6628-37-1)
5. Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate (CAS 5466-77-3/83834-59-7)
6. Triphenyl phosphate (CAS 115-86-6)
7. Butylated hydroxyanisole (CAS 25013-16-5)

The data shall be submitted via email to [email protected]; the deadline for submission is 31 March 2026.

CTPA submission of data

As part of its liaison with Cosmetics Europe, CTPA is assessing which ingredients already have industry dossiers available and if so, to seek submission of these dossiers to OPSS.  CTPA will keep members updated.

Note on data submission

Default Bodyweight

It is important to note that the UK Scientific Advisory Group on Consumer Safety (SAG-CS) has recently changed the default body weight for risk assessment to 70kg to be more representative of UK population.

Data on children or pregnant women

OPSS also notes that if these ingredients will be used in products that may foreseeably be used by children or pregnant women, relevant data to support the safety and exposure estimates should be provided for these populations.
