IFRA Call for Interest to Defend Hydroxycitronellal

The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) launched this call for interest to form a consortium to defend the continued use of hydroxycitronellal in cosmetic products.

Hydroxycitronellal is going through the harmonised classification process under the EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation with a proposed CMR 2 (reprotox) classification.  Therefore, in order to continue using hydroxycitronellal in cosmetic products, industry has to apply for an exemption by demonstrating safety as per the requirements under Article 15 of the EU Cosmetic Products Regulation.

The above linked IFRA letter includes all details on the consortium formation, as well as the estimated costs for defence.  Companies interested in defending continued use of hydroxycitronellal shall contact Cristina Arregui at IFRA by 10 July 2025.  More information on the IFRA consortium fromation protocol can be found here.
