On 12 October 2026, PackUK announced a new approach to the annual update of the Recycling Assessment Methodology (RAM), reflecting its shared responsibilities with UK Packaging PRO, the producer-led body for Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging.
The RAM is directly linked to the EPR fees that obligated producers must pay to place packaging on the UK market. The new approach aims to increase transparency and predictability by providing greater visibility of how evidence is assessed. UK Packaging PRO will coordinate, review and prioritise proposals to amend the RAM, focusing on improvements that are supported by robust evidence and will make a meaningful difference.
PackUK and UK Packaging PRO are gathering stakeholder feedback on possible improvements to the RAM. While the focus will be on a small number of priority areas, UK Packaging PRO will review all submitted evidence and consider whether changes are needed.
