Importance of Stability, Microbiology, Packaging and Cosmetovigilance in Cosmetic Safety Assessment

The stability, microbiological quality and packaging of a cosmetic product plays a huge role in its safety. In addition, cosmetovigilance data is an important tool to confirm product safety.

The fifth module of the CTPA Safety Assessment Campaign 2021 explains the impact of product stability, microbiological quality, packaging and cosmetovigilance data on the cosmetic safety assessment. The module covers the following key topics:

  • The basics of cosmetic product stability testing, how to determine the shelf-life and Period After Opening (PAO) of a cosmetic product.
  • The impact of microbiological contamination on the safety of cosmetic products, microbiological considerations depending on the product type and tests to assess the microbiological quality of cosmetic products.
  • Different packaging materials used for cosmetic products and any associated risk factors, required information and how to conduct safety assessment of these packaging materials followed by a practical case study.
  • What is cosmetovigilance, its importance in the safety assessment of cosmetic products and how to use cosmetovigilance data to confirm the safety of cosmetic products on the market.

Further details are available in the CTPA Safety Assessment Campaign 2021 programme and in the events section on the CTPA website. The speaker profiles are available at this link.
