All claims made for cosmetic products, whether they are on pack, TV, online, or in print, and whether they are text, images, or symbols, must comply with the UK Cosmetics Regulations (UKCR) and the Common Criteria for Cosmetic Claims. Furthermore, all claims made in the UK to advertise a product must comply with the advertising and competition laws. The Responsible Person placing the products on the market is liable for the claims made, including their wording and their claim substantiation, should be confident in these claims.
This CTPA webinar will provide an overview of all the legal requirements for cosmetic claims in the UK. We will review the obligations of the UKCR, explore the Common Criteria, and discuss the horizontal legislation such as the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive and the UK Advertising Codes.
We will provide information on the principles for claim substantiation, which will be further explored in practice during the in-person training day for CTPA members on 4 June 2024 as part of CTPA's Cosmetic Claims Training Programme 2024.
The webinar will be relevant for any person working in R&D, Regulatory and Compliance, Legal, Brand Marketing, as well as any other person involved with claims and product design.
