UK REACH – List of Grandfathered Substances

The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) published the list of substances grandfathered under UK REACH from existing holders of EU REACH registrations.  The list is non-exhaustive, as it contains substances grandfathered to the UK REACH-IT service until 1 July 2021; some chemicals were also excluded due to confidentiality.

Companies are welcome to use this list to view which substances have been grandfathered, however they should be cautious about the use of such information.

  • The grandfathering does not mean that the substance is registered under UK REACH, as the full registration deadlines are in 2/4/6 years.
  • Downstream users are advised to continue to engage with the suppliers of the substances within their portfolio to understand whether substances will be registered under UK REACH.
  • Downstream users importing ingredients or finished products from the EU are advised to submit Downstream User Import Notifications (DUIN) for the imported substances.  For more information on how to submit the DUIN, please check this news item.
