Science Competition for 11-16 Year Olds

Now in its fifth successful year, the Society of Cosmetic Scientists (SCS) Scrub up on Science competition is once again open!  Students all around the UK are challenged to think about the chemical processes involved in creating cosmetics and personal care products and put their own skills to the test.

If you know a school where budding chemists would like a chance for their team to win the title of Young Cosmetic Scientists of the Year, 2019 please put them in touch with the SCS. To win this prestigious title, they will have to:

  • test a hypothesis while creating a bubble bath or bath bomb (you can request FREE surfactant from the SCS)
  • add an element of their own research
  • submit evidence of their experiment in a film or presentation for judging.

The chosen finalists will go on to compete against each other and recreate their product for the judges at London Zoo on 18 June 2019 and be in with a chance of being crowned 2019's winners.  See the video of the 2018 finalists in action.  The closing date for applications for the 2019 competition is 26 April 2019.

As well as the Scrub up on Science resources and school visits available from the SCS, find out more about cosmetic science careers here on the SCS website and here on the CTPA's educational website, CATIE.  Both sites offer free resources for schools to help teach science using the exciting opportunities in the cosmetic and personal care industry.
