Consumer safety is the overriding objective of the EU Cosmetic Product Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009. In the EU, safety assessment of cosmetic ingredients and products is based on evaluation of the risk they pose.
For anyone working in cosmetic product development who wants to learn more on this topic, CTPA and XCellR8 are running must-attend virtual training event. This event ‘Principles of Cosmetic Safety Assessment Using Alternatives to Animal Testing’ will provide an overview of the cosmetic product safety assessment process and highlight the importance of exposure-led principles.
Qualified toxicologists and experienced safety assessors, Ray Boughton and Jay Ingram from Delphic HSE will cover key considerations including hazard vs exposure principles in safety assessment of cosmetic products.
Ray holds an MSc in Molecular Pathology and Toxicology from the University of Leicester and over 17 years experience working in toxicology . He lectures on toxicology, exposure science and chemical risk assessment for undergraduate and postgraduate university courses. In addition to this, Ray works within the wider scientific and industrial communities on a number of expert committees. This has included positions with the In Vitro Toxicology Society (IVTS), British Toxicology Society (BTS), European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and International Standards Organisation (ISO).
Jay has an MSc in Toxicology from the University of Surrey and over 10 years experience working in the area of toxicological risk assessment of personal care products, exposure modelling and regulatory toxicology. Jay has previously worked in the Unilever Safety and Environmental Assurance Centre and Reckitt Benckiser (RB) Consumer Safety Team.
