Next Generation Risk Assessment (NGRA) for Cosmetic Safety Assessment

March 2021 marked the eighth anniversary of the complete implementation of the EU animal testing ban for cosmetics.  In order to perform a comprehensive safety assessment, the cosmetics industry must rely on alternative methods to generate new data for the safety assessment of cosmetic ingredients and products.

The seventh module of the CTPA Safety Assessment Campaign 2021 explains the Next Generation Risk Assessment (NGRA) approach to the safety assessment of cosmetics. This is a hypothesis led, non-animal approach to safety assessment using human-relevant in vitro assays and computational tools to aid decision making. The module covers the following key topics:

  • The key concepts of NGRA
  • New Approach Methodologies (NAMs)
  • How the outputs can be brought together to make decisions on cosmetic safety

Further details are available in the CTPA Safety Assessment Campaign 2021 programme and in the events section on the CTPA website. The speaker profiles are available at this link.
