The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) Green Claims Code provides six principles which must be complied with when making environmental claims. These principles are in accordance with the requirements of consumer protection law.
The fifth principle of the CMA’s Green Claims Code states that environmental claims must consider the full life cycle of the product or service.
- The full life cycle of the product or service, and the whole of a business’s activities, may be relevant.
- All aspects of a product’s or service’s environmental impact over its life cycle, including its supply chain, could be important.
- Claims should also make clear the limits of any life cycle assessment the business has done.
- Any life cycle analysis used to back up a claim should be up to date.
