Brexit Updates – Customs Authorisations

On 9 April, the UK Government updated its guidance on what changes may apply to customs authorisation as at the end of the Brexit transition period, currently scheduled for 31 December 2020.  The guidance specifies that, from 1 January 2021, companies importing goods from EU Member States into the UK may need to follow the rules for importing goods from the rest of the world.

The guidance also explains customs special procedures and how to apply for the Authorised Economic Operator status.

Under the UK/EU Free Trade Agreement there will be specific provisions applicable to customs procedures for goods moving between the two Parties, however these have yet to be finalised during the negotiations.
