The Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association (CTPA) is the voice of the cosmetics and personal care industry in the UK, promoting good working practice and representing the interest of its members through active dialogue with UK Government, European and international regulators, interested stakeholders and media. Membership comprises manufacturers, ingredient suppliers, retailers and service providers, from SMEs to multi-nationals.
CTPA is currently recruiting for a Scientific Information Officer to assist the scientific services department in supporting and progressing the Association’s scientific support to member companies. The role offers the possible advancement to Scientific Affairs Manager with the appropriate experience and expertise.
The successful candidate must possess a good honours degree in a scientific discipline. Knowledge of the UK and EU cosmetics regulatory framework, or a related field, is highly desirable and previous experience of the cosmetics industry would be preferable. A background in formulation, research, safety, development or production would be an advantage.
The ability to critique scientific literature is necessary, as are excellent administrative, organisational and communication skills, particularly written communication. A high level of computer literacy is also required.
The central London, office-based position involves helping to gather and collate information on the safety, manufacture and regulation of cosmetics and personal care products with a focus on ingredients, cosmetovigilance, product safety and other technical aspects. The Information Officer will respond to a wide range of scientific, technical and regulatory enquiries from members; and represent the industry to UK regulatory authorities and to the European personal care association, Cosmetics Europe, therefore some international travel will be required in time. As new research can often lead to media interest, to which CTPA may be expected to respond, the role calls for the need to act swiftly in reviewing scientific studies to distill the key aspects. The ability to act independently and on own initiative to carry projects through to a successful conclusion will be instrumental in a successful progression to an exciting career with this leading trade association.
The CTPA is offering an attractive salary according to experience, with private healthcare and a workplace pension scheme. The offices are centrally located in London, W1.
