The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) are joining the CTPA for a webinar on environmental and green claims in the cosmetics industry, designed to help brands ensure compliance with evolving regulations in the UK and EU. The webinar will cover different types of environmental claims, from product packaging to manufacturing processes, key regulatory updates, and information on misleading environmental claims, and how to successfully communicate environmental credentials whilst avoiding pitfalls in advertising.
This 2-hour session will feature:
- A presentation from Taylor Meanwell, Compliance Executive at the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), on advice and best practices for ensuring compliance with their advertising codes, as well as recent rulings and case studies where environmental claims in advertising were found to be misleading.
- Updates from CTPA the proposed EU Green Claims Directive and Empowering Consumer for the Green Transition Directive, designed to establish common criteria against greenwashing and misleading claims across the EU.
- CTPA will also provide updates on the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigations into 'greenwashing' in the UK, specifically targeting environmental claims in the cosmetics sector.
Taylor Meanwell is based in the Compliance function of the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP), the sister organisation to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). CAP is responsible for writing, advising on and enforcing the CAP Code whereas the ASA respond to complaints about specific ads. Taylor's work at CAP focusses mainly on environmental claims and developing tools with the Data Science Team to help monitor and assess ads at scale across a range of media. He is currently leading a number of Compliance projects, including looking at claims relating to electric vehicles, airlines and recycling.
This webinar is suitable for professionals working in R&D, Regulatory & Compliance, Legal, Brand Marketing, and Brand Management, as well as anyone involved in claims development or product design.
