Environmental Impacts of Production and the Supply Chain
This section is highlighting the places where CTPA, through coordinated industry action, is influencing its members to: reduce their environmental impact of production on biodiversity and ecosystems in their supply chain, reduce petroleum-based sourcing, highlight and make changes to the cosmetic industry's water reliance and improving air quality for all.
This impact goal aligns with the internationally recognised Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation
- 7 - Renewable Energy
- 13 - Climate Change
- 14 - Life Below Water
- 15 - Life on Land
What are members doing?
Of CTPA's 175 current members and associates, 135 initiatives are being undertaken by 55 different companies (as noted in 2019). For every company that lists environmental goals for 2020, no member has sought to lower their reduction of Green House Gas (GHG) emissions by less than 15%. Our members are also working with some of the worlds leading environmental stakeholders and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) including Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
Of the initiatives that fit into either SDGs 6 or 14, only 29 initiatives were found. However, water use within the production, distribution and final use of products is an area where the industry has the potential to make further improvement.
This section will be updated regularly with illustrative case studies that we hope will help inspire and motivate companies in the industry. We will also be showcasing examples of industry best practice from our largest and most sustainably innovative companies.
