IMPORTANT – Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the UK and EU

The UK and the EU have settled the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA), finalising the negotiations over the future relationship between the two parties following the departure of the UK from the EU.  The full agreement can be accessed here, and an official summary can be found here.

The ambition from both sides to complete an agreement that protects the trade and regulatory relationship in the long term is apparent from the text, which is built with the understanding that both parties will have freedom to operate with sovereignty and establish the frameworks and legal mechanisms necessary to enhance and protect their individual interests.  In addition, it establishes formal procedures for the application and review of the agreement with the creation of the necessary representative groups engaging in ongoing discussions.  Prominent throughout the agreement is the understanding that the protection of human health, consumer rights and the environment requires both parties to engage in meaningful interactions and the sharing of information.
