IMPORTANT – Participation to the CE Titanium Dioxide Consortium

On 6 May 2021, the EU Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published an updated safety assessment for E171 used as food additive. The EFSA concluded that titanium dioxide can no longer be considered safe as a food additive as genotoxicity concerns after consumption of titanium dioxide particles could not be excluded.  The EU Commission has therefore shared its intention to mandate the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) to review the safety of titanium dioxide (nano and non-nano) in consumer exposure via the oral or inhalation route.

Industry has been given until 15 May 2022 to prepare the supporting dossier for the SCCS to review until.  Therefore, Cosmetics Europe (CE – the European personal care association) is re-opening its consortium to defend titanium dioxide and has issued a call for participation for all interested companies.

Companies interested in participating to the consortium shall contact CTPA ([email protected]) to be put in contact with the relevant staff at Cosmetics Europe.
