CTPA Representation in DIT’s Trade Advisory Groups

In July 2020, Trade Advisory Groups (TAGs) were established in order to meet the requirements of the Department for International Trade’s (DIT) trade negotiations.

CTPA has been working closely with the DIT, and has been invited to participate as a member of the British Manufacturing and Consumer Goods TAG. In this forum, the CTPA will be able to represent the UK cosmetics industry alongside other representatives from a diverse selection of other areas.

This opportunity reinforces the contribution from CTPA into the UK Government Trade Policy, and creates a new communication channel to raise those concerns or demands from our industry with regards to international trade and established or future trade relationships.

The TAGs main purpose is to provide the blend of strategic and technical expertise required to ensure the UK’s trade negotiations are able to process at pace.  The TAGs will be chaired by the relevant DIT Director and DIT will act as the Secretariat for the groups.  The groups will meet at least three times a year, or as required by developments in the free trade negotiations process.

Secretary of State for International Trade, Liz Truss said: “I want business in Britain to feel engaged and informed about the work we’re doing to build an independent trade policy and how it impacts them. As we recover from Coronavirus we want to strike deals that benefit every part of the country so we can build back better and deliver a fairer country for all”.

The TAGs cover 11 sectors in total:

  • Agri-Food;
  • Automotive, Aerospace and Marine;
  • British Manufacturing and Consumer Goods;
  • Investment;
  • Life Sciences;
  • Tech and Telecoms;
  • Chemicals;
  • Financial Services;
  • Professional Advisory Services;
  • Transport Services;
  • Creative Industries.

More information on the TAGs and members can be found on the UK Government website.
