The UKNI mark was introduced with the 7th amendment to the Product Safety and Metrology Statutory Instrument; more information on this was previously shared by CTPA. Please note that the UKNI mark is to be used only on products that require third party conformity assessment; therefore it does not apply to cosmetics. However, some companies who manufacture or sell cosmetic products may also trade in other goods that may require third party conformity assessment.
The UK Government has now issued further guidance to clarify the use of the UKNI mark:
- products that require third party conformity assessment sold in Northern Ireland must follow EU regulations, therefore they have to be labelled with the CE mark, if the conformity assessment was carried out by an EU company;
- if the conformity assessment was carried out by a UK body, the product must feature also the UKNI symbol;
- these requirements only apply to products placed on the market after 1 January 2021 and if the conformity assessment was carried out after 1 January 2021.
